This 9-day South Island journey combines STEM learning, Indigenous knowledge, and adventure for Year 7 students. Throughout the trip, students collect simple space data—moon phases, visible planets, sunset times, temperature, and star positions—to analyse back at school.
Beginning in Christchurch, students explore space and climate science at the Airforce Museum. In Lake Tekapo, a night at Mount John Observatory introduces southern skies and Māori astronomy.
Visits to Aoraki / Mount Cook, and Queenstown blend environmental data collection with hiking, lake studies, adventure activities, and star-gazing.
The program concludes back in Christchurch, where students will study climate science at the Antarctic Center and reflect on their findings—linking maths, science, and Indigenous relationships with the stars into a meaningful classroom project.
